Achievements

Celebrating Every Milestone

Every Child. Every Step. Every Success
At St. Joseph’s Special School, we believe that success cannot always be measured by medals, certificates, or academic scores. For our students, an achievement may be speaking a first word, taking an independent step, preparing a meal, securing a job, or simply believing in themselves.
For over five decades, St. Joseph’s Special School has been transforming lives by nurturing the unique abilities of children and young adults with intellectual disabilities. Every milestone—big or small — is celebrated because every achievement represents courage, perseverance, and hope.

Academic Achievement

Every child learns differently, and we celebrate progress at every stage of learning.

  • Our Individual Education Plans (IEPs) ensure that every student receives personalized instruction suited to their strengths and needs. Students are encouraged to develop literacy, numeracy, communication, and functional academic skills that prepare them for independent living.
  • Several students have successfully completed the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) examinations, while many others continue to make significant progress in reading, writing, communication, and daily functional academics.
  • For us, education is not merely about passing examinations—it is about equipping every child with the confidence to participate meaningfully in society.
Sports Excellence

Sports have become a powerful platform through which our students discover confidence, discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

  • Students regularly participate in district, state, and national-level sporting events, proudly representing the school in athletics, indoor games, and Special Olympics competitions.
  • Many have returned with medals, certificates, and recognition, proving that determination knows no disability.
  • Every race completed, every game played, and every medal earned reflects months of dedication and personal growth.
Arts & Cultural Excellence

Creativity allows our students to express themselves in ways words often cannot.

  • Our students actively participate in music, dance, painting, drawing, drama, craft making, and cultural festivals. Their artistic talents have been appreciated in numerous competitions and exhibitions.
  • More importantly, these creative experiences nurture confidence, communication, imagination, and emotional well-being
Every painting tells a story.
Every performance celebrates ability.
Every creation reflects the limitless potential within each child.
Vocational Excellence

At St. Joseph’s Special School, vocational education is more than learning a trade—it is about discovering purpose, building confidence, and creating opportunities for independent living. Every skill learned is a step towards dignity, self-reliance, and meaningful participation in society.

Over the years, we have witnessed remarkable journeys of transformation.

Eldhose's Journey to Meaningful Employment

One of our former students, Eldhose, who received vocational training at our school, is now a full-time salaried employee at a reputed supermarket chain in Thrissur. His journey from the classroom to stable employment stands as a testament to what consistent guidance, practical training, and determination can achieve.

Godson's Path of Purpose and Independence

For Godson, maintaining a conventional workplace routine has always been challenging. Recognizing his strengths, our vocational unit provided him with an opportunity to create handcrafted orchid plant baskets. Today, he earns an income through this work—enough to meet many of his personal needs. More importantly, he has found a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and independence.

Elijah's Passion, Her Livelihood

Elijah, an autistic young woman, has transformed her passion into a livelihood. Through the training and encouragement she received at the school, she now creates artisan soaps and bakes a variety of products that she proudly markets and sells. Her growing enterprise has made her increasingly self-reliant and serves as an inspiration to many other young adults with disabilities.

Learning by Doing

Our vocational programme provides students with authentic work experiences that prepare them for meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.

Our Bakery Unit

Our Bakery Unit is a vibrant training centre where students learn to prepare cakes, cookies, breads, festive treats, and a variety of baked products based on customer orders. Every order teaches planning, teamwork, hygiene, precision, quality control, and customer service. The Christmas season brings a special excitement to our campus. The bakery comes alive as students work together to prepare festive cakes, cookies, and seasonal delicacies, learning to meet real customer demands while experiencing the joy of celebration. Students also participate in regular sales-cum-exhibitions across various locations in Thrissur, proudly showcasing products they have designed and created. These events strengthen communication skills, confidence, and practical marketing experience.

Our Student Brand - Kidilam

We are proud to have established our own student brand, Kidilam, featuring an ever growing range of products including pickles, savouries, fruit squashes, cleaning products, and other household essentials. Every product reflects the dedication, creativity, and hard work of our students.

Tea & Coffee Shop

Another unique initiative is our Tea & Coffee Shop, where students prepare fresh snacks daily and serve customers. They participate in every aspect of the business—from food preparation and customer interaction to stock management, purchasing, billing, and maintaining accounts. This hands-on enterprise equips students with practical business skills while nurturing future entrepreneurs.

Handcrafts & more

Our vocational centre also produces a wide variety of handcrafted products, decorative items, gift articles, seasonal crafts, eco-friendly products, and home décor pieces that are showcased throughout the year.

Vocational education at St. Joseph’s Special School is not simply about teaching a skill—it is about enabling our students to earn with dignity, contribute to society, and lead lives of greater independence.

Building Independent Lives
Our goal is not simply education—it is independence

Some of our greatest achievements cannot be displayed on a trophy shelf. Students who once depended entirely on caregivers gradually learn to communicate their needs, care for themselves, prepare simple meals, travel with assistance, manage personal hygiene, handle money, participate in household chores, and interact confidently with their communities. These everyday victories may seem ordinary to others, but for our families they represent extraordinary moments of hope.

Empowering Families
When families grow stronger, children flourish

Every child's success begins with a family that is informed, encouraged, and supported.
Through parent counselling, awareness programmes, workshops, home guidance, and continuous collaboration, we help families understand their child's unique abilities and become active partners in the journey of growth.

Every Achievement Begins With An Opportunity
Behind every success story is someone who believed

Together, they have helped transform lives. As we continue our mission of empowering children and young adults with intellectual disabilities, we invite you to become part of this journey. Because every child deserves the opportunity not just to learn—but to thrive, to belong, and to live with dignity.
